They enable the research firms to narrow down the selection of panelist with the demographics required for a particular study. This enables them to offer higher paying amounts to the panelist that actually complete the full survey.
In effort to encourage panel members to be active and to help put a positive spin on the online survey process, some Online Survey Panels do offer incentives just for attempting to take the online survey. Some offer small cash incentives while others offer sweepstakes entries. Lets take a closer look:

The amounts vary, but are usually a dollar or less, and sometime credited in the form of points, which are redeemable for cash; but even that can add up, and add to your totals received from completed surveys. Plus, it usually only takes less than five minutes to determine where or not your qualified, so all in all not bad considering that you will earn even more if you qualify for the survey study.
In addition to the list above most of the other survey panels will offer cash or prize sweepstakes entries for attempting surveys. LightSpeed and American Consumer Opinion are a few that come to mind. I can personally vouch for American Consumer Opinion, I have won a couple of their sweepstakes drawings. Others like SurveySpot will let you play an instant win game after completing the survey whether you qualify or not.
The thing to remember is to be honest with your answers and respond to survey invitations that have topics that interest you. Follow that advice and you will qualify for more surveys, and at least enjoy the time spent on the ones you don’t.
