Test Your Stock Trading Skills with Wall Street Survivor

by Jim the Admin on January 5, 2008

Wall StreetWhile this blog is primarily focused on Paid Survey Panels, every now and then I come across an off topic site that I must blog about. Today that site is Wall Street Survivor. If you are interested in the stock market or wish to learn more about trading stocks online you should check out this site. Wall Street Survivor is free to join, and it allows members to manage their own $100,000 fantasy stock portfolio and execute trades in real time simulating the actual online trading experience. I have traded stocks online using a discount broker for several years, and was amazed to how similar their interface was to the real thing. So much so, that I was actually skiddish about making the big orders with the seed $100K “virtual money” that you are initially given. I had to keep reassuring myself that is was not real!

HOW IT WORKS

When you sign up for Wall Street Survivor you are initially given $100K in virtual money that you can use to purchase stocks online. While the actual purchase process is just a simulation, stock transactions are done in real time and are based on actual market conditions. You can purchase any stocks you like, just like with an actual discount broker, however they do limit you to no more than a $25,000 investment in any one give stock. In addition to simulating the buying and selling process, they have a great suite of research tools to analyze stocks, and great tutorials that explain the basic process and terms involved in trading online.

To me this site seems like an excellent way for novice investors to learn how to trade stocks online, and not lose money doing so in the meantime. Trust me, I wish this site was around when I first started trading. I could have saved a bundle. But wait, this site is not just for novice investors, experienced investors also stand to benefit, because in addition to all of the free tools offered online, you can even win prizes!

I thought the game started on May 1, 2008 but the site is still under maintenance. Hope the delay wasn’t a serious one.

Sorry the information above is about the old contest. Yes, the new contest does start May, 1 2008, and it looks like they have added some prizes. I received an email earlier from them saying that they had a few issues with their launch, but they are back on line now. I was able to get in and start building my portfolio.

Good Luck!

Just go back to the site and log in. Once you are a member you can participate in their current contest. If you need to reset your portfolio, you can do that within the member’s area.
